چکیده

23 Atrial fibrillation (AF) is associated with morbidity and mortality of heart failure. 24 Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), which is contained in fish oil, was shown to reduce risk of 25 cardiovascular diseases. We investigated the effects of EPA on AF associated with heart failure in 26 a rabbit model. Rabbits were subjected to ventricular tachypacing (VTP) for 4 weeks with or 27 without EPA treatment. Continuous VTP induced heart failure status in these rabbits. The 28 duration of AF (DAF) induced by burst pacing was analyzed by electrophysiological studies. 29 VTP resulted in increased DAF following burst pacing. EPA treatment attenuated increased DAF. 30 Atrial fibrosis increased in response to VTP, accompanied by extracellular signal-regulated 31 kinase (ERK) phosphorylation and transforming growth factor-beta1 (TGF-β1) expression in the 32 atrium. Treatment with EPA attenuated atrial fibrosis, ERK phosphorylation, and TGF-β1 33 expression in response to VTP. EPA treatment increased adiponectin as an anti-inflammatory 34 adipokine and decreased tumor necrosis factor alpha as a pro-inflammatory adipokine in the 35 atrium and epicardial adipose tissues. EPA attenuated VTP-induced AF promotion and atrial 36 remodeling, which was accompanied by modulating the profiles of adipokine production from 37 epicardial adipose tissue. EPA may be useful for prevention and treatment of AF associated with 38 heart failure. 39 40

Modulation of extracellular atrioventricular node field potential pattern and ventricular rhythm by morphine in experimental atrial fibrillation in isolated rabbit heart

Introduction: Endorphins are produced by cardiomyocytes, and exert different effects on the heart. The aim of the present study is to assess morphine effects on extracellular atrioventricular (AV) node field potential pattern and ventricular rhythm of isolated rabbit heart during experimental atrial fibrillation (AF). Methods: Effects of different concentrations of morphine (10, 20, 50 and 1...

The effects of Vitamin C on Inflammatory Markers and Atrial Fibrillation in Patients Undergoing Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery in Bushehr Heart Center: A Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial

Background: Coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG) with cardiopulmonary bypass pump may cause systemic inflammatory reactions by releasing cytokines which leads to multiple organ failure. Vitamin C has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. The study aimed to determine the effect of vitamin C on inflammatory markers and atrial fibrillation in patients undergoing CABG. Materials and ...

Acute direct effects of cyclosporine on extracellular field potential of isolated rabbit AV node during experimental atrial fibrillation

Introduction: Previous studies have indicated a relationship between MPTP pore and AV nodal rate-dependent properties. The aim of present study was to determine acute direct effects of cyclosporine on extracellular field potential of isolated rabbit AV node during experimental atrial fibrillation. Methods: In one group of male New Zealand rabbits (1.5-2.5 kg) cumulative concentrations of cyc...

Association of plasma phospholipid long-chain ω-3 fatty acids with incident atrial fibrillation in older adults: the cardiovascular health study.

BACKGROUND Experimental studies suggest that long-chain n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFAs) may reduce the risk of atrial fibrillation (AF). Prior studies evaluating fish or n-3 PUFA consumption from dietary questionnaires and incident AF have been conflicting. Circulating levels of n-3 PUFAs provide an objective measurement of exposure. METHODS AND RESULTS Among 3326 US men and women...
